Have you ever noticed that sometimes your hair feels weighed down, fat, or simply do not behave? Have you in a pool lately, and I've noticed that it is difficult to comb your hair? Well, maybe it's time to clarify!

Stuff builds up on hair, all kinds of things. Coatings, foams and gels; Water deposits and minerals; Chlorine and chemicals in swimming pools; even the waxes and moisturizers in some shampoos and conditioners can leave build up on the hair over time.

This structure can cause hair appear dull, heavy, greasy and limp. A clarifying shampoo can help remove these deposits, give your hair a fresh start, and restore shine.

How often should you clarify?
The answer to this question depends on how much you pass through your hair on a daily basis. If you use a lot of hair products or very hard water, you may find it helpful to clarify weekly or even twice a week. Float in the pool every day, you may need more often to be clarified. But if you use minimal hair products or soft water, you may only need to clarify at least every two months. I would say that the average person should clarify their hair 1-2 times a month.

How do you identify?
Using a clarifying shampoo is really no different than any other shampoo, with some adjustments. Start with a quantity of nickel to quarter size clarifying shampoo and work into your scalp only light massage for a good 60 seconds. Depending on the amount of accumulation and oils in the hair, the shampoo foams slightly, which is normal.

Rinsing.

Then, take a small amount of shampoo (the more hair you have, the more you have to use, but usually no more than an average amount of quarter) and you work the shampoo into your hair. You should notice a lot of foam. Well, let the shampoo sit all sudsy on your head for a minute or two (now would be a good time to shave your legs to be). Leave the shampoo will help free product. Then rinse very, very well. If your hair is in particular the need to clarify the treatment, this step can be repeated.

Condition your hair as normal. You may need to use a bit more than usual conditioning, do not rinse the shampoo moisturizers that can make your regular shampoo.

Which clarifiers are the best?
Most professional product lines a clarifying shampoo how much over the counter product lines. They all work very similar. I personally use the Redken Cleansing Cream on myself and in my living room. Kenra takes a good clarifying shampoo gentle enough to be everyday use and color safe. Your stylist may have a favorite brand, or may be able to make a clarifying shampoo that best recommended for your hair type and situation.

Can I clarify to dye my hair when I get my hair?
Yes. However, use a clarifying shampoo too often in hair color can make your hair color, fade quickly. So it is best to clarify colored hair no more than once a month, and certainly not lighten hair in the first few weeks of a fresh color.

What happens if my hair is still misbehaving?
If you notice that the clarifying shampoo just does not work, especially if you're a regular swimmer or have a lot of hard water deposits, it may be time for a stronger treatment by your hairdresser.
